Ben Mallott

Mastering and Cutting Engineer
Ben has been producing and performing music professionally for over 20 years, initially in the band Pest who released 3 Eps independently leading to four EPs and 2 albums on Ninja Tune. The ongoing project has now expanded into an 8-piece live outfit consisting of Guitar, Trombone, Bass / Cello, Keys, Drums, Sax, Trumpet & Sousaphone. Their genre-defying sound combines furious funk, jazz, electronica and techno.

Ben’s best-known solo work is as Ben Pest, an established exponent of experimental funk-driven techno with his live hardware-based shows, and has played such festivals and clubs as Bloc, Glade Festival, Boomtown Fair, Don’t and Berghain. A DJ, writer and producer, he has had numerous releases including on Bonus Round, I Love Acid, Balkan Vinyl, Victim Records, Don’t Records, Horror Boogie Records and Panic Bridge.
He also regularly collaborates with Luke Sanger (aka Luke’s Anger) as Bebop and Rocksteady, their initial 12” release on Addison Grooves Lost in Translation imprint was followed by EPs on Bonus Round and Off Me Nut.
In 2006 he collaborated with Cristian Vogel in his Station 55 studio in Barcelona, what came out of these hardware jams was Black E. Their output consisted of a twistedly jacking 12” on Sleep Debt and a track on Seed Records, as well as gigs in London and Berlin.

Aside from his production work, he has worked variously as a Pro-Tools operator, a recording and mix engineer and sound designer. He is also a qualified music teacher, and has worked teaching Music Production in many educational establishments. For the last 4 years he has worked at the renowned Point Blank Music School in Hoxton, London where he teaches degree-level Sound Design, Music Composition and Live Performance to the next generation of Music Producers.
